How to Apply

We are currently accepting applications for the LEAP 2018 Program. Apply online through your university's career portal, or email a resume and unofficial copy of your transcripts to universityrecruiting.us@bbva.com.

Do I qualify for the LEAP program?

Read the requirements below to see if you qualify:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, computer engineering, finance, marketing, management, management information systems, and related business fields with a graduation date of December 2017 or May 2018

What else do you look for in your top candidates?

The LEAP program is highly competitive, with only 25-30 students accepted to participate each year. Candidates have to meet the minimum requirements to be considered, but in addition to that, we like to see previous intern experiences within the financial industry (or a related field) as well as evidence of leadership, extracurricular, and community service activities throughout your college career.

Location & Timeline

When does LEAP start and where is it located?

The LEAP program starts in early July, with the first 6-9 months located in Birmingham, AL.

What will I be doing during my 6-9 months in LEAP?

July-September (Learning and Evaluation): During the first three months of LEAP, you’ll learn about BBVA Compass, explore our various lines of business, and meet with members of our executive management team. You’ll also receive Dale Carnegie training in addition to banking and credit fundamentals training. Based on these activities, your background, and your interests, we’ll tailor a rotation plan to you, so that you may explore various jobs within the bank.

October-December (Application): Get first-hand experience working in departments across the bank through several rotations that last approximately 6 weeks each.

After December (Placement): Once you finish the core curriculum of the program, you could be placed anywhere throughout the BBVA Compass footprint, depending on business need.

Testimonials

Hear what participants say about LEAP

“LEAP was the perfect transition from college to a professional career because not only was I able to grasp the complexities of a large company, but I was also surrounded by peers who were experiencing the same rewards and challenges of starting a new career. This program was instrumental in helping me get to where I am now.”

Brian Wiggins; currently in Houston, TX

"My favorite part of the LEAP program was the amount that BBVA Compass invested in our training. During training we were exposed to different parts of the bank through presentations, interactive activities, and projects. While this helped me to decide the best fit for me within BBVA Compass, the training we received on leadership development, professional speaking, and networking skills were just as important if not more so."

Andrea Villavicencio; currently in Birmingham, AL

"The LEAP program was incredibly instrumental to my career development. The access and time spent with the bank's executive management team, coupled with intensive professional training like Dale Carnegie, has made for an incredible work experience. The lessons learned and the relationships fostered while in the program have been invaluable and have allowed me to create real, tangible value for my team, my clients, and the bank. I don't know if I would be in the position I'm in without LEAP!”
