Creating Opportunities for Brighter Futures

A savings account to build a nest egg. A loan to launch a family business. A mortgage for a new home.

Every day, BBVA Compass is creating opportunities for brighter futures for our clients. To underscore our commitment to helping people improve their lives and their futures, BBVA Compass launched the Summer of Opportunity in June. As part of this initiative, employees have been handing out $25 gift cards in the communities where they live and work.

BBVA Compass executives also are giving out $250 gift cards to area charitable organizations that are making a difference. On July 17, Chief Marketing Officer Jennifer Dominiquini rode her bike around Houston handing out gift cards to organizations including The Center of Houston, a nonprofit dedicated to helping adults with physical and developmental disabilities.

The Summer of Opportunity is just the latest initiative in BBVA Compass’ long list of efforts to create opportunities for people who need it most:

  • In February, BBVA Compass helped the Miami Dolphins kick off the Dolphins Cancer Challenge, the signature initiative of the Miami Dolphins Foundation’s health pillar. The annual event raises funds for cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami.
  • In May, Lakeline Station Apartments in Northwest Austin opened its doors to 128 low-income families. BBVA Compass, working with the affordable housing nonprofit, Foundation Communities, financed more than half of the total cost of the development.
  • So far this year, BBVA Compass’ Bright Perspectives series has visited Laredo, Texas, Phoenix, and Jacksonville, Fla., bringing top minds and insights to clients across the footprint. The forums have provided the bank’s clients with a first-hand outlook on financial security, the economy, small business, and technological trends.
  • In July, the Phoenix Mercury and BBVA Compass teamed up to award the nonprofit Backpacks 4 Kids AZ Inc.$2,500 in cash and $5,000 in Phoenix Mercury assets as part of the “Bright Futures Women in Business” program. Backpacks 4 Kids AZ, created in 2015 by Kaitlyn Martinez when she was just 11 years old, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing disadvantaged children living in Arizona with backpacks full of school supplies.

The Summer of Opportunity initiative is set to end in early September, but BBVA Compass’ commitment to creating opportunities for brighter futures will continue.

“Our team is in the business of staying true to who we are, through both our words and our actions,” says Dominiquini. “We’re not just putting a brand out there – we’re living our brand. We’re creating opportunities for everyone’s bright futures, and that shows in the work we do year-round.”
