Processing Policies
Posting Order
The order in which withdrawals and deposits are processed
We process and post transactions - both credits (including deposits) and debits - throughout the day. This approach allows us to more closely match the posting of transactions on your account with the timing of your actual account activity.

Note: Deposits received and posted late in the day will not cover payments and withdrawals posted earlier the same day.
Summary of Our Deposit
Hold Policy

This is a summary and generally applies when deposit amount is less than $5,000 - absent a deposit hold. See the Consumer Deposit Account Agreement, Funds Availability Disclosure, for a detailed description of our deposit hold policy.
  • Cash deposit with teller or at ATM - Same business day as the day of deposit
  • Direct Deposit/wire transfer - Same business day as the day of deposit
  • Check deposit with teller or at ATM - same business day as the day of deposit
  • If something causes a longer hold on a deposit listed above, the first $200 of that deposit will generally be made available the same business day as the day of deposit
  • Mobile Deposit - Within 5 business days or less. Date displayed in mobile application.
A "business day" is a non-holiday weekday. At branches, business days end at closing time. At ATMs, business days end no earlier than 8:30 p.m.
Dispute Resolution
Dispute Resolution Agreement If a dispute arises between us, either party may require that it be resolved through arbitration, rather than through jury trial. Please see the arbitration and waiver of jury trial provisions in your Consumer Deposit Account Agreement for additional details.

ACCOUNT OPENING AND MAINTENANCE

The Monthly Service Charge will not apply for statement cycles when one or more of the following requirements are met:

  • (1)The account has an Average Daily Collected Balance* of at least $5,000, OR
  • (2) You maintain a combined Average Daily Collected Balance of at least $25,000 in your BBVA Compass ClearChoice Interest Checking and BBVA Compass ClearChoice Money Market accounts**, OR
  • (3) The primary accountholder is enrolled in the BBVA Compass Premier Personal Banking Program and maintains Premier Personal Banking status (Subject to eligibility. Balance requirements apply. Visit bbvacompass.com for details).
  • (4) The primary accountholder is a BBVA Compass Global Wealth Client.

*Average Daily Collected Balance: the average of all daily collected balances in your account during the statement cycle.

Collected Balance: is your account balance minus any funds you have deposited that have not been collected from the financial institution on which the deposited funds are drawn.

**Only consumer deposit accounts for which you are listed as the primary depositor (the depositor whose social security number is identified on the account) will be used in determining the combined deposit balance.

HOW INTEREST IS EARNED ON YOUR ACCOUNT
The daily balance method is used to calculate the interest on the account. This method applies a daily periodic rate to the Daily Collected Balance in the account each day. For BBVA Compass ClearChoice Interest Checking accounts, we pay the stated interest rate only on that portion of the Daily Collected Balance within the applicable tier. Unless the entire Daily Collected Balance is within the first tier, the same rate will not be applied to the full balance. Interest on deposits begins to accrue no later than the business day on which we receive credit for the deposit. Accrued interest that is credited to the balance in the account on the first business day of the following statement cycle. Accrued interest that is credited to the balance in the account begins to earn interest no later than the next business day and compounds with each statement cycle. If you close your account or convert your account to a non-interest earning account before accrued interest, if any, is credited, you will not receive the accrued interest. For BBVA Compass ClearChoice Interest Checking accounts, we pay the stated interest rate only on that portion of the balance within the applicable tier. Unless the account balance is within the first tier, the same rate will not be applied to the full account balance. A taxpayer identification number will be required to earn interest on these accounts.

The following chart shows the annual percentage yield and interest rate effective as of March 29, 2017. Interest rates and the annual percentage yield are variable and at our discretion, we may change the interest rate for your account at any time. Rates may change prior to funding and any interest being earned. BBVA Compass Fee to Use Another Bank's ATMs $0 PLUS, 2 automatic rebates of other banks' ATM fees per statement cycle; rebates will be credited to your account at the end of each statement cycle+.

+BBVA Compass does not charge a fee to use another bank's ATM. Service fees charged by other banks and ATM owners still apply; however, there will be no charge for use of an ATM in the Allpoint® network.

The NSF charges described above are applied for processing items presented for payment against insufficient funds (NSF) with a maximum of six (6) charges per day. These charges are imposed on items created by check, in-person withdrawal, ATM withdrawal, Check Card transaction, or other electronic means.

Extended Overdraft Service Charge $25 per occurrence. This charge is applied once your account becomes overdrawn and continues with a negative balance for ten (10) consecutive calendar days. An additional $25 extended overdraft fee will be charged if your account remains negative for twenty (20) consecutive calendar days. This charge is in addition to any NSF charges you may incur as a result of items being presented against insufficient funds.
Inter-Account Transfer Fee No Charge
Transfers funds from customer designated account to cover potential overdrafts in checking account.

Complimentary BBVA Compass ClearChoice Money Market

Upon request, the primary accountholder of a BBVA Compass ClearChoice Interest Checking account will receive a waiver of the Monthly Service Charge for one BBVA Compass ClearChoice Money Market account. Primary accountholder of the BBVA Compass ClearChoice Interest Checking account also must be an accountholder on the BBVA Compass ClearChoice Money Market account in order to receive the waiver.

Applicable Fees and Service Charges

Your account will be subject to the terms and conditions, including all fees and service charges, applicable to BBVA Compass accounts in the state where we maintain your account. For purposes of this disclosure, your account will be deemed to be maintained in the state where you opened your account. Your account is considered to have been opened: if you opened your account by mail, at the location where the mail was received by us; or if you opened your account electronically (including by telephone) and your address is in a state where we have branch offices, in the state of your address at the time you opened your account; or if otherwise, in Alabama.
