Google Pay

Convenient, secure payments. Without your wallet.

With Google Pay, you can now pull out your phone rather than dig out your wallet. Because your BBVA Compass debit, credit, or prepaid card works easily and securely with select Android devices wherever contactless payments are available. Online purchases, too.

That way, you can pay wherever Google Pay is available without physically swiping your card. You won’t even need to open an app to do it.

How does it work?

Look for these symbols wherever you make purchases to make sure they accept contactless payment. Then it’s a matter of just holding your Android near the business’ Point of Sale system. The two devices do all the work, exchanging your payment data. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

Sounds great. How do I get started?

Paying with Google Pay is easy. Getting started is quick and simple, too.

  1. Google Pay works on all mobile devices running Android 4.4 and above. Plus, Google Pay is already preloaded on many Android phones. If it is not on your device, simply download it from Google Play.
  2. If you already have your eligible BBVA Compass card listed on your existing Google account, just confirm a few details to set up. Or add a new BBVA Compass eligible card by snapping a picture and providing additional information for the purposes of security.
  3. You’re ready to use Google Pay.
  4. Go to to learn all about how to get the most out of Google Pay.

Frequently asked questions

What is Google Pay?

Android Pay is now called Google Pay. You’ll now see the Google Pay logo when you use or buy Google products, like Google Photos or digital content on Google Play.

Google Pay is much more than an app. It’s an easy and secure way to pay online, in stores, and in apps (like Airbnb, Fandango, Lyft, and Instacart) with your Android devicesaving you the extra time it takes to pull out your wallet. You can also use Google Pay to keep your gift and loyalty cards on hand when you shop at your favorite stores.

Google Pay does all the same things Android Pay did. Plus, you’ll enjoy some shiny new additions to the app design and features, as well as support for new partners over the coming months.

If you’re already using Android Pay, you don’t need to do anything to get started with Google Pay.

What's happening to Android Pay?

Android Pay isn’t going away. It's just getting a new name. With Google Pay, everything you loved about Android Pay stays the same. All of the information you’ve added and your Android Pay settings will be the same on Google Pay.

Do I need to download a new app?

No. The next time you update your Android Pay app, it’ll become Google Pay. Learn how to update your app.

Do I need to add my cards again?

No. Any credit, debit, gift, or loyalty cards you added to Android Pay will automatically show up in Google Pay. If you used a payment method to buy a Google product or service (like an app or movie on Google Play or storage space for Google Drive), you’ll still be able to access it through the Google payment center.

How will this affect my payment security?

The security measures protecting your info won’t change with the new name. You can read about security for Google Pay here.

Can I still get info about transactions I made on Android Pay?

The same transaction info you get now will continue to be available to you after the change to Google Pay.

Can I use Google Pay with the same stores, apps, or websites where I used Android Pay?

Yes. Google Pay works everywhere Android Pay worked (wherever near field communication, i.e.,  NFC, payments are accepted in stores). You can also look for Google Pay at checkout in more of your favorite apps and sites.

Android Pay wasn’t available in my country before. Is it available now?

Google Pay can be used to make in-store payments via NFC in the following countries / regions; Google Pay is expanding this feature to new places all the time so stay tuned for future announcements.

When is my payment information linked to my Google Account?

Your payment information is linked to your Google Account when you:

  • Buy a Google product or service (like an app or movie on Google Play or storage space for Google Drive)
  • Add cards to Google Pay, Chrome, or another Google payment product

For more information on which payment information you have on file with Google, visit the Google payments center.

Is Google Pay available for iPhones?

You won’t be able to use your iPhone to pay in stores with Google Pay, unless you are making the payment with an Android Wear smartwatch that is paired to an iPhone. More information is available here.

What cards are eligible for Google Pay?

You may enroll your BBVA Compass Visa® consumer credit cards, BBVA Compass ClearSpend Prepaid Visa® Card, or BBVA Compass Visa® consumer or business check cards, in Google Pay.*

Can I enroll any other products in Google Pay?

Currently, no other products are eligible for Google Pay, but as new products are available, more information will be provided.

Where can I go to find out how to enroll in Google Pay?

You can find detailed instructions on how to enroll and use Google Pay at This will provide you detailed instruction on how to enroll, how to use Google Pay and what merchants and applications support Google Pay.

When I use Google Pay, is my card number stored on my phone?

No. Your card number is not stored on your phone. Your phone is provided a unique token account number specific to your device and that token is passed to the merchant instead of your card number, which provides you with a more secure purchase experience.

I loaded my card but the image is different than the physical card I have in my wallet. Is this right?

Yes. There may be slight variations in the image you see from what your physical card looks like. Keep in mind, the image you see is just a representation of your card and will not impact your purchase ability.

Do my transactions post any differently?

No. Any purchases you make will process the same way as they currently do. You can make purchases and returns without any issues in the transaction posting to your account properly.

If I have questions about Google Pay and my card, who do I call?

BBVA Compass has representatives ready to answer your questions. If you have specific questions about your Google Pay, you may call 1-844-533-8041, and one of our customer representatives will be happy to help you.

What if my phone is lost or stolen?

Android has very detailed instructions on how to handle a lost or stolen phone with Google Pay.

First, if you have Find My Android Device Manager enabled, you can follow the instructions in Android Device Manager to erase your phone.

If you do not and you wish to disable your token account number, you can call BBVA Compass at 1-844-533-8041 and we will be happy to assist in disabling the ability to use Google Pay on your lost or stolen device.

If my phone is lost and stolen, do I have to change my physical Account Number?

No. Since the physical account number is not stored on the device, you do not have to change your account number. However, you will need to disable the token account number assigned by Android to avoid anyone using your Google Pay functionality on that device.
