Get the App & the Card

Available for IOS or Android Devices. Order a prepaid card online or directly from the app, or step into one of our branches and receive your card immediately upon approval.

Load Funds

Load from a BBVA Compass debit card or set up direct deposit. Cards can be loaded with cash at any Visa ReadyLink® location or BBVA Compass branch. Money can also be transferred to your ClearSpend card using PayPal®, Venmo®, Popmoney® or other transfer services.

Start Spending

Use your ClearSpend Prepaid Visa® debit card for all your day-to-day, on-line, and household spending. After 30 days, the ClearSpend app will automatically suggest a budget.

Budgeting for two

With ClearSpend, two people can manage one budget while maintaining a snapshot of who spent what.

Secondary cards are great for:

  • Sharing a household budget with a spouse or roommate
  • Setting up your child with a secondary card and teaching them to budget (limit one secondary card per account)

Since both cards are tied to the same budget, each cardholder has the ability to load funds to ClearSpend that can be used for purchases by either cardholder. Secondary cardholders will have to verify their e-mail addresses and activate their card before using. Each cardholder will receive spending alerts each time a purchase is made by either cardholder.

How do I request an additional card?

You can add a secondary card holder during application or any time at clearspend.bbvacompass.com/login. Login to your account and select "Add a Second Card" from the main menu to get started. The second card will be sent to the address you use during the application.

Direct Deposit

You can Direct Deposit all or part of your pay check to your card, add cash to your card at any BBVACompass branch location or participating Visa ReadyLink® retail merchant location.

Transfer money to ClearSpend

Login to an existing bank account and transfer money to your ClearSpend account using services such as Popmoney®, PayPal® or Venmo®. You'll need your ClearSpend account number and routing number which are available in the App under "My Account". Funds will be available in 2-3 business days.

Can I order other BBVA Compass ClearSpend cards to be used by someone other than the primary cardholder?

Yes, you can add 1 secondary cardholder or authorized user. Additional cardholders must be at least 13 years of age.

Does the BBVA Compass ClearSpend card require a credit check?

When you apply for a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card, we do not check your credit score, however, your application is subject to approval based on other data on file at consumer reporting agencies.

How can I activate my BBVA Compass ClearSpend card?

You can activate at clearspend.bbvacompass.com/login or on the ClearSpend app. You may also activate your card and set your PIN by calling 1-866-236-7967.

How do I setup my PIN number?

Can I receive direct deposits in my BBVA Compass ClearSpend account?

How do I add funds to my BBVA Compass ClearSpend Card?

Funds can be added to a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card with a BBVA Compass debit card, by direct deposit, with cash deposited in a BBVA Compass branch, or at a Visa ReadyLink location. (Visa ReadyLink merchants may charge a fee for this service.) You may also transfer funds using PayPal®, Venmo®, Popmoney® or other money transfer services. Where can I use a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card?

How can I get cash using a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card?

You can use your BBVA Compass ClearSpend card to get cash at any ATM where Visa is accepted or can do a cash advance at any bank where Visa is accepted. You can also visit any BBVA Compass branch location to obtain cash from your account balance.

Where can I get cash without any fees?

You can use your BBVA Compass ClearSpend card to get cash from any BBVA Compass ATM. You are allowed one non-BBVA Compass ATM per month, or as part of a cash-back transaction at a merchant without any fees.

Are checks issued with a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card to access funds?

Checks are not available with BBVA Compass ClearSpend card.

Are there any limits on funding, purchases, or withdrawals?

Yes, there are limits. Please refer to the Fees and Limits grid schedule.

Can I overdraft a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card?

It is not possible to overdraft your BBVA Compass Clearspend Card on standard transactions. However, it is possible to take your balance into the negative in certain instances, such as when a merchant places a hold on funds for less than the final amount due. For example, some restaurants will place a hold on the funds required to cover your meal check, however the amount actually withdrawn could be more due to the addition of gratuity. This could make the transaction more than your available account balance. Please be certain of your availability prior to completing these types of transactions to make sure it will cover the entire amount.

Can I receive transaction alerts?

Yes, you can set up mobile alerts online or in the iOS/Android app.

Is a BBVA Compass ClearSpend card protected against fraud?

Yes, the BBVA Compass ClearSpend card is protected from fraud through Visa’s Zero Liability coverage. You will have no liability for unauthorized use of the card as long as fraudulent transactions are reported within the necessary timeframes. Disputes are handled by Visa. Customers may call 1-877-659-9230 to dispute charges. There may be a delay in obtaining provisional credit based on the situation.

How can I fund a secondary cardholder/authorized user?

Since a secondary cardholder shares the same funds as the primary cardholder, the primary card holder can add funds to another person’s card by loading cash at a BBVA Compass branch, via Visa ReadyLink, via Direct Deposit, or transfer from a BBVA Compass checking account using a BBVA Compass debit card. Secondary cardholders may also fund the account, as well.

The customer service number for questions about the BBVA Compass ClearSpend card is 1-866-236-7967. There is no charge for customer service. Please note that if you have questions regarding the ClearSpend Mobile App that you will be transferred to the Technical Support Team for help.
