How to Apply

We will begin accepting applications for the 2019 LEAP Program this coming Fall. You will be able to apply through your university's portal, or email a resume and an unofficial copy of your transcript to universityrecruiting.us@bbva.com.


Do I qualify for the LEAP program?

Read the requirements below to see if you qualify:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, computer engineering, finance, marketing, management, management information systems, and related business fields with a graduation date of December 2018 or May 2019
    • We only accept candidates who are upcoming graduates for our LEAP program. For additional opportunities, please be sure to visit our careers site for the latest offerings.
  • Willingness and flexibility to relocate to any location in the BBVA Compass footprint for a first assignment
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated through campus and community involvement as well as work experiences
  • A self-starter with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Team player who understands confidentiality
  • Foreign language proficiency is preferred
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future

What else do you look for in your top candidates?

The LEAP program is highly competitive, with only 25-30 students accepted to participate each year. Candidates have to meet the minimum requirements to be considered, but in addition to that, we like to see previous intern experiences within the financial industry (or a related field) as well as evidence of leadership, extracurricular, and community service activities throughout your college career.

Location & Timeline

When does LEAP start and where is it located?

The LEAP program starts in early July, with the first 6-9 months located in Birmingham, AL.


What will I be doing during my 6-9 months in LEAP?

July-September (Learning and Evaluation): During the first three months of LEAP, you’ll learn about BBVA Compass, explore our various lines of business, and meet with members of our executive management team. You’ll also receive Dale Carnegie training in addition to banking and credit fundamentals training. Based on these activities, your background, and your interests, we’ll tailor a rotation plan to you, so that you may explore various jobs within the bank.

October-December (Application): Get first-hand experience working in departments across the bank through several rotations that last approximately 6 weeks each.

After December (Placement): Once you finish the core curriculum of the program, you could be placed anywhere throughout the BBVA Compass footprint, depending on business need.
