You can apply for a BBVA Compass checking account online at bbvacompass.com. If you would rather apply in person, find a BBVA Compass location. Or apply via phone at 1-800-COMPASS (1-800-266-7277).

How do I apply for a checking account online?

Here’s how to start your BBVA Compass checking account online application:

  1. Find the checking account that’s right for you
  2. Look for “Apply Now” button to start your application
  3. Fill out the application form, fund your account, and review and confirm your information before submitting your application. It’s that quick and easy.

How much does it cost to open a checking account?

This varies by bank and the type of checking account.

For a basic, no frills checking account, most banks require at least a minimum opening deposit. For example, to open a BBVA Compass Free Checking Account, you'll need an initial deposit of $25.

For a checking account with more features, and/or one that bears interest, you'll typically pay a monthly fee. For example, the BBVA Compass ClearChoice Interest Checking Account offers tiered interest rates but requires a $25 Monthly Service Charge (which you can avoid)

What do I need to apply for a checking account?

To apply for a checking account at BBVA Compass and most other banks, you’ll need the following information and documentation:

  • Social security number
  • U.S. driver’s license or state ID number
  • Date of birth
  • Primary address and contact information

You’ll also need to confirm that you are:

  • A U.S. citizen and permanent resident
  • 18 years or older

If you are opening the account with someone else, also known as opening a joint account, they’ll need this information and documentation as well. You’ll need a minimum deposit of $25 to open a checking account.  

What happens if I start an application, but don’t finish?
