AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING
LATINA ENTREPRENEURS
THREE WINNERS WILL EACH RECEIVE A $3,000 GRANT
AWARD BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Compass Bank, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Telemundo-San Antonio and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) all share a commitment to support the needs of Latina business owners. In order to promote Latina entrepreneurship, these organizations are collaborating to present the Latina Business Excellence Awards – grants for Building Business Excellence.
Three $3,000 prizes made up of a $500 cash award and a $2,500 scholarship to attend the UTSA "Building Business Excellence" program will be awarded to selected Latina business owners from San Antonio who exemplify a spirit of entrepreneurship. Awards will be presented at Pearl Stable on Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Nominee must:
- Be a Latina who owns a high percentage of and is an active principal in a San Antonio business
- Be in business prior to May 7, 2005
- Be a legal resident of the United States or its territories
- Be in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- High-growth potential firm (panel review of applicants)
- Be the owner (not hired staff), although option exists for partner spouse and key managers to participate in the class also as a team
- Be in any line of business that will generate economic development for San Antonio area (not passive investment activity)
- Commitment by owner to participate in BBE 6 month program
- Agree to confidentially report company sales and employment trends to UTSA over 5-year period
HOW TO APPLY
All applications become the property of Compass Bank and will not be returned.
- Complete and sign the application form.
- Prepare responses to the evaluation criteria questions in order, with the total not to exceed three (3) pages and cover all of the questions.
- Include total number of employees.
- Prepare two (2) complete packets each to include a copy of the complete application form. Faxed applications will not be accepted.
- Prepare bio(s) of business owner(s), 500 words or less with key highlights for an introduction or press release.

- Compass Bank Latina Business Award winners will be announced and the awards presented during a breakfast at Pearl Stable, May 7, 2008. Award winners must commit to be present at the event in order to receive the award.
- A 3' x 5" color photograph of each of the finalists will be requested for promotional purposes. Photo must be submitted within 5 days of the request and be of professional quality, jpeg version preferred. Photos will not be returned.
